In the Beginning

Beer Table was opened in 2008 by Justin Philips as an intimate tasting room featuring a curated selection of eclectic beers with unusual snacks and small plates. In 2011, we opened our first Beer Table To Go in the history rich Grand Central Terminal. The goal was simple - to offer the same curated experience we had crafted at our restaurant in one of the most unique locations in the city to one of the most underserved beer audiences out there. And wouldn’t you know it? We were a hit! Beginning in the fall of 2016, we took our first steps toward making an even greater impact on the palates of New Yorkers by opening our second To Go location in the new Westfield World Trade Center.

Our Team

Justin Philips, Founder

Always seeking a new adventure or experience, Justin serendipitously discovered his affinity for beer while working in a wine shop in Boston. This led to a position with a highly influential beer importer, and eventually to a clear vision for a unique way to present beer. Justin’s vision has always been to present beer as food and as something relevant to anyone who eats and drinks. He firmly believes that beer is among the most basic and significant elements of any dining experience. This is the driving value behind the concept of the Beer Table name, brand and culture.

Megan Saxelby, General Manager

Megan joined the Beer Table team after earning a degree in Nutrition from the University of Texas. Aside from an obvious passion for beer, she loves experimenting in the kitchen, biking, Longhorn Football, and spending time with her husband, daughter and dog. She fully admits that, as ludicrous as it sounds, her Beer Table Table Beer would likely be modeled after either Montegioco Bran Reserva or Schlenkerla Marzen.

Grand Central Terminal

Michael G., Store Manager

Michael has been a member of the Beer Table team for some time now. He has lived up and down the east coast, mostly in Florida. A graduate of Boston College, he enjoys long boarding, exploring new food and beverage joints in the city, and going to the beach. His favorite beer would have to be the Abbaye de St. Bon Chien from BFM, but Cigar City Jai Alai will do in a pinch.

Noah L.

Noah was born and raised in New Jersey, went to college in southern California and has called New York home for the last four years. He is currently pursuing a degree in applied statistics, but would much rather talk to you about beer. He feels that Blackberry Farm's Classic Saison may just be the best beer ever, though Andechs' Vollbier Hell runs a close second.

Inger C.

Inger is an Iowa native who gained an appreciation for beer during her college years in Philadelphia. Once a dedicated wino, she was challenged to order an Ithaca Flower Power on a first date. Never one to deny a challenge, she ordered the beer, but with hesitance. Little did she know that this first sip would be a revolution to her taste buds and ultimately the start of her career in beer. When Inger is not trying a new brew, she is dancing, frolicking around the city, and planning her next adventure. You will find her at GCT trying to absorb information on the vast beer selection that Beer Table has to offer, as well as cracking a corny joke or two.

Dennis C.

Dennis was born and raised just outside of Boston, MA, and went to college in Baltimore, MD. He moved to NYC in the summer of 2016 after working as a bartender and mental health counselor in the metro Boston area. He is having a blast exploring a brand new city and all it has to offer (especially the beer). He is generally a big fan of anything sour or wild and loves pretty much any beer brewed with brett.

Matthew S.

Matthew is a Florida native who attended Florida Atlantic University. Like most college students he enjoyed beer from time to time. However it wasn't until he took a trip to Holland that he learned he had a passion for all things beer. After college he moved to Austin, Texas and expanded his love of beer at local breweries such as Jester King. Although he's still new to the professional beer world, he is extremely excited by the selection that Beer Table has to offer and the knowledge that his fellow colleagues bring to the table.

Fee D.

Fee is originally from L.A., and didn’t truly enjoy beer until traveling abroad in the hot deserts of West Africa, when only that ice cold adjunct lager would do. She still loves beer, though now prefers a quenching gulp of a gose on a hot day. She studied Acting at Boston University, so when she is not pouring beer, making coffee, or baking bread, you can find her performing and singing with Dzieci Theatre. As if that weren't enough, she also writes for Thirsty Mag, covering beer events and culture in the city. She's thrilled to be a part of the Beer Table crew, and is looking forward to expanding her knowledge on all things beer!

Stephen B.

Stephen is a New York City native who went out to the Pacific Northwest for college, where he discovered a passion for microbiology and, more importantly, developed a love for the wide world of beer with microbrew classics like Stone Double Bastard and North Coast Brewing’s Old Rasputin. A few years ago, he returned to New York, and continued exploring those topics, both academically and in his leisure time. In addition to enjoying the offerings of the craft beer world, he researches and writes about the science of beer, as well as its history. Unsurprisingly, he’s also a fan of another beer-adjacent pastime; baseball.

Ariel S.

Ariel hails from the Land of 10,000 Lakes where she first became interested in craft from the amazing breweries in her hometown of Minneapolis, MN. She has been living in Brooklyn for 5 years, is an avid home-brewer with her husband and is vice president of the largest home-brew club in the City. When she isn't doing "beer stuff," you can find Ariel reading a good book, snapping photos with her SLR, working on her podcast, and planning her next vacation. If you were to find her at a bar, she would probably be sipping on a sour/wild ale and enjoying laughs with her friends.

World Trade Center

Gavin M., Operations Manager

After five years of working in Brooklyn tech start-ups, Gavin jumped at the chance to make the move from long-time Beer Table customer to full-time Beer Table team member. In addition to cooking, hunting for new beers, and traveling, he enjoys exploring the Adirondacks with his girlfriend and hiking in the Hudson Valley. Gavin hopes to someday cycle from brewery to brewery in Belgium's Ardennes Forest region with his brother.

Tony S.

Tony was born and raised in New York City. He went to school to become an audio engineer and plays several instruments. He loves playing and listening to live music, in addition to trying new foods and beers. And loves cooking, especially with beer. He prefers his beer much as he enjoys his music - dark!

Isa G.

Isa graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. But later discovered that her true passion was within the food and beverage industry and pursued a culinary certificate from Kingsborough. When she's not at Beer Table, Isa enjoys biking through Brooklyn and checking out the newest restaurants and bars, cooking at home or curling up with a book and a beer - preferably a porter or stout!

Julian B.

Julian jumped into the craft beer industry when his passion for the world's most storied beverage superseded that for the TV, film, and photography industries he came from.  When he isn't reading, chatting about, homebrewing, or savoring beer, Julian can still be found snapping away with his Sony NEX-7 or hunting down a screening of that awesome indie flick you haven't heard of. He also enjoys watching soccer, playing indie video games, reading graphic novels, and spending time with his lovely girlfriend.

Leo G.

In his own words, Leo Gil is all about running, craft beer, and dogs. Leo was born and raised in New York, and when he's not enthusiastically enjoying or discussing craft beer, he's helping men and women with barriers to employment become economically independent. His hobbies include running and taking pictures of cute dogs, and he hopes to one day run the New York Marathon and brew the best stout known to man.
